April's Fools

We will be welcoming April 1st in about three day's time.

April Fools Day. Any idea how that day of pranks and practical jokes came about?

I received an email in my college mailbox and they attempted an explanation which I thought was quite a refreshing look at the tradition we hate to love and love to hate.

So anyway...

It began in the early 1500s when certain people decided to change the celebration of New Year's Day from April 1 to January 1. News travelled and soon many people all over Europe and the American colonies got to know about the switch. However, some refused to change and continued to celebrate New Year's Day on April 1st. These traditionalists were then labeled as "fools" for being so stubborn in their backward ways. Hence, that's how April Fools' day came about.

Which gave us the reasons to switch classrooms with the students in the next class, freaking the teacher out, or wrapping the toilet seat with cellophane paper.

Go figure.

Just a little bit of sanity. Seriously, I don't mind celebrating New Year's day on January 1 AND April 1.

My dearie, from now on we can also remember April 1 as Ally and Weiming's wedding day. And no, this is no April Fool's joke either!
