ALWAYS CHECK YOUR BAG WHENEVER YOU LEAVE

Alwaysane had a scare.

It was a fear-inducing scare which led me to impart to you the valuable lesson learnt.

Never leave a place without first checking your bag.

This is her story.

Last night, I had a meeting with Marieke to discuss notes for a debate. We were talking first at the cafe, then we continued the discussion in the grad lounge.

After that, Marieke drove me to the Commons where I was meeting Sandra for dinner. We had dinner, we talked, we laughed. Then Sandra drove me home.

When I reached home and looked through my bag, I noticed something was amiss.

It was not good.

MY MP3 PLAYER WAS MISSING!!!

How?!?!?!?!?!?!

I checked my bag about 16 times and checked my sweatshirt... NOTHING!

I paniced. I thought...

Could I have left it in the restaurant? I called the restaurant but no answer.

Could I have left it in Sandra's car?

Could I have left it in Marieke's car?

Could I have left it in the grad lounge?

I prayed fervently that I'd have left it in the grad lounge. If I've dropped it on the street, I can just kill myself.

So I tried to retrace my steps.

"When was the last time I remembered holding it?"

I was in the cafe waiting for Marieke, and when she arrived, I kept it in the pouch and put it in my bag. The thing is, I don't remember ever taking it OUT of my bag.

So I told myself, "It's ok. Go to bed, wake up early and go to the grad lounge and see if it's there. If not, then try calling Sandra and Marieke and see if they find it in their car. If not, I'll call the restaurant. If not, then...... I can't think that far..."

Like all times when you try to sleep when you have a lot of things on your mind. You can't.

I rolled left right up down. I even had the weirdest dreams. But nope. No good sleep.

I woke up at 4. That's not good. I wanted to wake up early, but not that early!

I went back to bed and got up at about 6. I walked around... aimlessly.... then, at 8am, I took the bus to school.

Well, for the whole night I was praying, pleading Jesus' blood on my MP3 player that IT WILL BE SAFE AND SOUND.

Really, technology and recreation are taking over my life and I am not even putting up a fight. Now there are two things I can't live without: laptop and MP3 player. Ok, three: and Cable TV.

Oh hail TV! Long live MP3! At your service, laptop!

I was really in shock and felt as if my soul was in limbo. NOT A GOOD FEELING TO HAVE.

Especially when the MP3 player is a gift from my buttery cousin. HOW TO ANSWER HER?!

And also, my assignments (COMPLETED ONES AND DUE ON MONDAY) are in there. I almost fainted....

Anyway, I reached the grad lounge and I was praying while walking, opening the door and when I switched on the lights.....

MY MP3 PLAYER IS ON THE TABLE! SAFE! INTACT!

HALLELUJAH!!!!!!!!!!!

So, now, the Sane is typing in the library with a HUGE cup of coffee and eyes that are closing involuntary.

The lesson learnt is: Always check your bag whenever you leave some place.

It's worth it.
