Happy (lunar) new year!
Can you believe another new year is here. Another time of eating bak gwa, collecting ang pows and entertaining relatives.Seriously, before I met the only men I put my tabloid faith in, 新明and晚报, I never knew there to be so many interesting news about Chinese New Year that I bet you don't know about.
Number one: Chinese New Year is supposed to start on Feb 5.
That is according to the solar calendar, which says that Feb 5 is actually the first day of the new year. Darn I feel cheated. I could've gone on leave much earlier.
Number two: No red for rats.
All rats beware. Red is not a good color for the first day of Chinese New Year. Instead, you should be wearing green. This has something to do with a combination of your birth sign, the opposing elements and feng shui. Apart from rats, there are three animals that are not supposed to wear red for the first day of CNY, but I don't remember which. So, just wear by faith.
